Our ăstrăs say that a yogi is one who is not only unaffected by happiness or sorrow, but also brings happiness to those with whom he comes in contact and removes their sorrow as well. If one is able to set aside his/her likes and dislikes and lead a disciplined life as prescribed in the ăstrăs, such a yogi is able to cleanse her/his mind and succeed in remaining in a state of perpetual happiness and bliss, eventually leading him/her to Liberation. In order to set an example of how ordinary people like us may lead such a life, Lord Nărăyana incarnated Himself as ri Răma and led a dhărmic life completely bound by the vedic dictums, even though ri Răma or Lord Nărăyana Himself was the parama purusha to be known through the Vedas. Unlike ri Krishna, however, when ri Răma lived on this earth He never ever revealed His Divinity and Omnipotence, but outwardly went through all human emotions like all of us, although inwardly He was totally unaffected by what was happening to Him. When the veda purusha incarnated Himself as a child of king Daaratha, the veda also descended to earth as the child of sage Vălmiki and took the form of Rămăyana. So mush so, nothing but the essence of the vedic dharma is seen through out Rămăyana. ri Rămas exemplary conduct in every circumstance, whether outwardly pleasant or unpleasant, was totally in accord with the vedic injunctions. Therefore, ri Răma is aptly called as the personification of dharma itself - Rămo vigrahavăn dharmah. Mere mention of ri Rămas name is sufficient to remove all impurities from our minds and lead us to Liberation. Hence His name is known as Tăraka Năma, the name that transport one from bondage to Liberation. On this auspicious occasion of ri Răma Navami, may we all chant His name and receive His infinite blessings. Răma Răma Răma Răma Răma Năma Tărakam I Răma Krishna Văsudeva Bhakti Mukti Dăyakam II |
